Did NCAA really get it right with punishment against Penn State?

Let me be clear about this! What Jerry Sandusky did is wrong. No if's, and's or but's about it! He was found guilty by a jury of his peers and will serve a lengthy prison sentence.

I've heard different things about Joe Pa's involvement. I've heard that he knew and that he tried getting it reported. I've heard that he followed the requirements of the university. And I've heard that he could have done more to stop the heinous acts that Sandusky committed.

All this aside, it was announced today that the NCAA has stripped all victories of the Penn State Nittany Lions from 1998 - 2011. The question is, is it really that fair to punish not only the school administration and the football coaching staff, but also all of the players that played during that time?

There are generally between 100-125 players on a college football squad a year. I know that there are usually players that are on the team for four years. So, throwing a figure out there, say that each year, there are 75 unique new players each of those years.

With that figure, you are punishing almost 1000 young men who played hard for the college during that time frame. These are young men who for the most part had no connection to the controversy or knew that it was happening.

So, is it really fair to strip all these games away from the people who pored out their blood, sweat and tears? Or is the NCAA going too far?
